When was the Last Time You Had Fun

When was the last time you had fun? For Angel the beagle, every day includes a little fun. Maybe that is a lesson for us all! This silly dog is always up for anything and ready for action. Her happiness is clearly a consistent mindset for her, but that comes from her engagement in “fun”.

Why is fun so important and when did we make it all seem so hard? First, we need to disentangle the idea of fun and happiness. Fun is simply an activity; however, it seems the more we try to organize it, shape it, set rules to it… the fun leaves much like the elusive fish we have been trying to catch. Happiness is a method to evaluate our current mood; in other words, they are two totally different items. Fun is an event, and happiness is a state of being. Those who have fun in their lives will more frequently report that they are “happy” in general. The danger is that the more we try to quantify fun and chase it, the harder it seems to catch it! Sometimes, it just takes spontaneity and many times it takes living in the moment by noticing you are already doing something enjoyable. My challenge to you this week is to get out there and have fun while spending time living in that moment!
