Healing Begins When The Mind Finds Stillness

About EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a gentle, evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain process and heal from difficult or distressing experiences. Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps reduce the emotional intensity of past memories, allowing you to feel more grounded, calm, and present. It’s not about erasing the past, but about freeing you from its hold — so you can move forward with greater clarity and peace.

How EMDR Works

EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. During sessions, the therapist guides you through brief sets of eye movements, sounds, or taps while you focus on specific memories or feelings. This process helps the brain integrate those experiences in a healthier way — reducing emotional intensity and promoting a sense of calm, balance, and clarity.

EMDR is not rushed or one-size-fits-all.
Katrina uses EMDR within a thoughtful, trauma-informed process that prioritizes safety, pacing, and readiness. The work then moves forward collaboratively, at a pace that feels manageable and appropriate for you.

Before beginning reprocessing, the focus is on:

  • Building a sense of emotional and nervous system stability

  • Developing coping tools and grounding skills

  • Ensuring you feel supported and prepared

Sessions are adjusted based on:

  • Your responses

  • Your nervous system cues

  • Your goals for therapy

You remain in control of the process at all times.
The goal is not to revisit the past in a way that feels overwhelming, but to help your mind and body resolve what has been holding you in place, so you can move forward with greater ease and clarity.
